The editorial test
“Was this experience worth your limited time on Earth?”
Every story, recommendation, and verdict has to earn its answer.
02 / Sandbox · Independent editorial
A journal about the meals, intimacy, and celebrations that make limited time feel well spent.
Read the story01 / The idea
Food Sex Alcohol is an independent editorial journal about experiences worth our limited time.
It begins with three universal human territories—nourishment, intimacy, and celebration—and asks one question of every recommendation: did this make a real hour of someone’s life better?
The subject may be a restaurant, a room, a bottle, or a conversation. The human moment always comes first. This is a slower editorial filter for deciding what deserves attention, money, and the time none of us get back.
The editorial test
“Was this experience worth your limited time on Earth?”
Every story, recommendation, and verdict has to earn its answer.
The point of view
Time is the one thing you cannot order again.
Every recommendation asks a reader to spend a piece of life. Food Sex Alcohol treats that as a responsibility—not a content opportunity.
02 / The editorial system
The title is provocative. The structure beneath it is deliberate.
Each subject maps to a feeling and a useful outcome. That framework keeps the journal cohesive whether a story starts at a dinner table, in a hotel room, or with a raised glass.
Nourishment, hospitality, and the tables that hold us. The subject is never only the meal; it is what the meal makes possible between people.
Connection, confidence, and the courage to be known. The journal approaches intimacy as a human experience shaped by attention and honesty.
Ritual, occasion, and a better reason to raise a glass. The focus is on the memory around the drink, not consumption for its own sake.
03 / The founding edition
The experience is designed as a publication, not a feed.
Large-scale photography, quiet type, generous space, and issue-based navigation give every story room to feel considered. The visual system shifts with the subject while the editorial test stays constant.
04 / The build
A fast, static publication with just enough interactivity.
Astro provides the publishing foundation and permanent story routes. React and TypeScript handle interactive reader moments and structured content, while Tailwind CSS 4 supports the responsive visual system. Photography is bundled locally, and Vercel handles production deployment.
No required environment variables. No external image dependency. Every story is a permanent, shareable route rather than a modal-only experience.
05 / The future
The intention is to grow by issue, not by volume.
The founding edition establishes the voice and the editorial test. What follows is a deliberate series of themed issues—each carefully curated, each giving readers a reason to return, and each expanding a useful library of experiences worth remembering.
Rituals, places, and gestures that turn an arrival, a toast, or a gathering into a genuine occasion.
A seasonal edition about the people, places, and experiences that begin when the heat finally breaks.
Places and experiences that create enough distance from routine to see life—and one another—more clearly.
